Unlike other holidays that we celebrate commemorating a historical milestone, honoring a person whose contribution to our country was significant, or observing a religious custom, Thanksgiving is simply an invitation to gratitude. A call to cultivate within ourselves a deeper awareness of the beauty and blessings which surround us and fill our lives.
A wise person once said, “The miracle of gratitude is that it shifts your perception to such an extent that it changes the world you see.” It is so easy for our perception of the world to be shaped disproportionally by the sensationalism of the news cycle when there are so many wonderful things going on all around us:
- All of the thoughtful people who donate so generously to our Resale Shops, providing needed revenue for patient care
- The hundreds of committed, talented, compassionate people who choose to volunteer their time here at Empath Health enriching all of our lives
- The countless people within our organization and across the country whose focus extends beyond their own concerns to see a need and respond with creativity and kindness
May the miracle of Thanksgiving open our eyes to the love which holds our world together and fills our lives with meaning.
