During our last Call to Connect, Director of Social Work Practice, Ronnie Featherstone shared this poem for a moment of inspiration.

“In the Time of Pandemic” by Kitty O’Meara

And the people stayed home.

And they listened, and read books, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still.

And they listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

And the people healed.

And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.

I love how this poem highlights and affirms all of the good things that are happening during these crazy times and imagines the ways we will emerge stronger and better on the other side.  It is so important to recognize that even now there are wonderful things happening that are worthy of gratitude. May we all dedicate ourselves to ensuring that these difficult days inspire our better angels and help us to strive for a better world.

Have a great week, everyone!
