One of our core values is being lovingly truthful, so we’re going to give it to you straight: working at Empath is not easy. Redefining healthcare is not easy!  But to steal a line from our friends at the Peace Corps, it’s the hardest job you’ll ever love.

Empathy requires being fully present, so it is important to us that our colleagues are supported personally, professionally, financially, and physically so that they have the peace of mind to be fully present in their work. We’ve designed our approach to benefits with that in mind, and with loads of feedback from Team Empath to ensure we’re meeting what is most important to all of us.

First up: paid time off. Our full-time colleagues get a lot of PTO, and they also get the freedom to use that PTO. It varies with hours worked, but most of our full-time colleagues get (and use!) about thirty days of paid time off each year. PTO can be used for sick time, or vacation time, or even catch-up-on-laundry time or chaperone-your-kids-field-trip time. When colleagues have the freedom to show up in their personal lives, they’re even better equipped to show up in their professional lives.

Given our commitment to radical empathy, it’s important to us that all our colleagues have access to high-quality mental health supports like talk therapy and meditation. Our benefits plans include multiple options for low- or no-cost therapy, both in-person and virtually. And our partnership with Headspace gives every colleague access to thousands of hours of on-demand meditations at the click of a button.
