Congratulations to our March Impact award winner, Betty “Cookie” Cisternas, a programs assistant for Suncoast Hospice, a member of Empath Health.
Cisternas joined the organization in 2007. In her role she provides support to the vice president of Suncoast Hospice as well as three directors.
“In one way or another, we all play a part in taking care of patients and families,” says Cisternas. “For me, it is also about giving back. My husband received hospice care for a short time and I went from being a caregiver back to being his wife and that really helped me with his transition.”
The monthly Impact Award recognizes and celebrates staff for their positive impact on others, demonstration of our values and above-and-beyond service.
Here is an excerpt from Cisternas’ nomination:
“Cookie Cisternas has been a dedicated employee for Empath Health since 2007. She has been on the President’s Council and was on the committee overseeing the Employee Sunshine Fund, which sends funds donated by employees to fellow employees in recognition of a major life event. Cookie has volunteered many times for Empath Health functions sponsored by other departments, like the Suncoast Hospice Foundation and the volunteer department.
Cookie is a multi-tasker who approaches her many diverse tasks and obligations with kindness, efficiency and quality work. She is always open, willing to try new things, and eager to do her best work.
She has a wonderful ability to help staff, patients and families. Cookie always has a kind word and a willingness to assist new staff when they are learning and not sure where they should go.
Cookie is very resourceful, knowledgeable and a great ambassador for Empath Health. She knows a lot of information about the organization and is considered the “go to” person when anyone needs to get their questions answered. You can always find her helping people throughout the day.
We are very grateful for the many tasks Cookie does for the organization. She has trained new admin staff, worked with Joint Commission preparations, disaster preparedness and has touched many lives with her willing spirit.”
