One of the wonders of modern technology is our ability to connect with one another and to know about exciting things happening throughout our community and all over the world. An unfortunate side effect of this connectivity is a phenomenon called FOMO. You may have seen or heard someone use this acronym. It stands for “Fear Of Missing Out”. It’s a vague sense of unease that divides our attention and gnaws at our awareness with the unsettling thought that there is something more exciting or important that we could be doing instead of what we are doing right now. This takes a toll on our souls and compromises our experience of the present moment. Tara Brach, psychologist and meditation teacher offers this insight,

Stepping out of the busyness,

stopping our endless pursuit of getting somewhere else,

is perhaps the most beautiful offering we can make to our spirit.

Give yourself a gift today. When you notice your attention divided by what you could be doing, focus your full awareness on what you are doing. Your soul will thank you!

Have a great week, everyone.
