One of our fundamental misperceptions is that we are our feelings. You can hear it in our language when we say, “I am happy”, or “I am sad.” We think that these feelings define us and dictate to us who we are and how we act.
Pema Chodron makes an important distinction. She writes, “You are the sky. Everything else is just the weather.” Understood in this way, we see that our feelings are passing phenomena which are part of a more expansive reality.
Whatever weather you are experiencing this morning, know that you are the sky.
Have a great week, everyone!
