As Valentine’s Day approaches store shelves are stocked with heart-shaped candies, balloons and flowers to be given to that special someone as a token of our love and appreciation. As wonderful as it is that we set aside a day each year to celebrate romantic love, I wish we could recognize and celebrate in our culture a different kind of love as well.
The kind of love which is patient in the face of frustration, which accepts and welcomes the one who struggles to fit in, which is willing to do the right thing even if it brings hardship, which sacrifices comfort in order to bring compassion. This kind of love is the unsung hero and worthy of celebration to be sure.
Have a great week, everyone!
